TFTSP: Your Bio Is Not Your Resume

Posted on: June 6, 2023

The Slush Pile is open this week and you know what that means!
TIPS FROM THE SLUSH PILE: While including your bio in your query letter, keep it to writing-related items, like most recent publications or awards for your work. If you don’t have any writing experience, that’s fine. But keep your bio short. No more than a few sentences.
I do not, in fact, need your entire work history from the time you started as a high school student til now, in your middle years, when you have not actually worked in publishing, marketing, writing, or any other related field. Seriously. Do not send your resume. We aren’t currently hiring for wait staff or parking lot personnel.
